RacerPorter is the graphical user client for the RacerPro reasoner and inference server. The metaphorical name RacerPorter was chosen to emphasize that it offers a "user friendly entrance" to an otherwise "faceless" RacerPro executable, similar to a hotel porter who will be helpful and a guide clients to available services.
Although quite a number of ontology browsing and inspection tools as well as authoring tools exist RacerPorter represents a different approach than these. RacerPorter was first released with RacerPro 1.8.1 in 2005. Since then it has been included in the standard delivery package of the RacerPro system even though it is not part of the actual product sold. Instead RacerPorter is provided AS IS without any warranty of any kind and is available for free to any registered user of RacerPro. Therefore RacerPorter is available on the personal download pages along with the RacerPro system. However, we have decided to make it available separately here as well.
RacerPro is used regularly by many RacerPro users. Based on usability feedback and on our own experience with RacerPorter, we have redesigned RacerPorter for the next major release of the RacerPro system (version 2.0) extensively.
Revision was not only required in order to enhance usability, but also in order to solve certain scalability problems. Users unscrupulously load rather large OWL files into RacerPro and expect their taxonomies to be visualized with RacerPorter. Various problems concerning the visualization and navigation were reported. We reacted to these complaints enhancing the performance and usability of RacerPorter on large KBs, e.g. the OWL version of OpenCyc.
For more information please regard the published paper or use the download option below to retrieve the PDF file from our web site. Further download options offer you a binary of the RacerPorter application for typical desktop operating systems. Please keep in mind that RacerPorter is not a stand-alone product. You should have access to a proper RacerPro installation as well. For optimal results you should run both applications from the current distribution which may be BETA, though. Please contact us if you have any question.
